We’re Lost In Music’s 2018 in Review
Hello!
The time has come for us to, once more, take a look back over our year in music and try and pick out our best bits (not an easy task!)
Here goes…
It’s been another year of discovering lots of new music – Spotify‘s Discover Weekly and Release Radar playlists have been our staples and have helped us find new bands we didn’t know before. We’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of these new discoveries live, while not forgetting our long time favourites.
New festivals have emerged and the London festival scene in particular has seen a lot of change with the introduction of All Points East in Victoria Park. We sadly haven’t been to as many festivals this year but those that we did go to were brilliant – so much talent!
Here is this year’s playlist, taking a track from each artist we’ve seen (or more than one if we’ve seen them more than once). We hope you like it – it was our NYE soundtrack this year!
While you take a listen, check out our 2018 highlights…
Our favourite moments:
Stripping it back to our Top 5 this year…
- Bonobo – Alexandra Palace, London – 01/06/18 (possibly the hottest gig we’ve ever been to but it was amazing!)
- All Points East – Victoria Park, London – 25/05/18 (a brilliant new festival for London and, with Glass Animals and Chromeo on the line up, they couldn’t go too wrong!)
- Neighbourhood Festival – Various venues, Manchester – 06/10/18 (now firmly established as one of our faves)
- Dumb Punts – The Northern, Byron Bay, Australia – 02/11/18 (randomly going to a gig while in Australia)
- Alvvays – Roundhouse, London – 23/02/18 (having wanted to see them for ages)
And the most disappointing – Clean Cut Kid and Young Fathers (unfortunately the sound didn’t work for either gig)
Our favourite live acts:
- Glass Animals

- IDLES
- LIFE
- Chromeo
- Everything Everything
Again, so many acts we could name here!
Our favourite DJs:
Bicep’s live show at Printworks this year was cracking!
Our favourite new acts (the ones we’ve just discovered):
Fontaines D.C. (a Spotify find)- Bad Nerves (found on Spotify and then supported High Tyde)
- whenyoung (supported Dream Wife)
- Pale Waves (played at Community Festival)
- Denis Sulta (seen at Lost and Found Festival)
We wonder who we’ll discover in 2019!
Our favourite venues:
Omeara, London- Alexandra Palace, London
- Electrowerkz, London
- Printworks, London
- Gorilla, Manchester
Our least favourite this year was Scala (yet we had 4 gigs there).
We’ve taken out our favourite albums as we don’t listen to albums as much anymore – how things change when you fully embrace Spotify!
Our year in numbers:
- Number of gigs – 51 (that number’s gone up again!)
June was our busiest month with 12 gigs – 7 of which were in 10 days! - Festivals – 5 (sadly that number has gone down)
- Number of new bands seen (that we hadn’t seen before) – 27
- Times we ventured further afield than the UK – 2 (once together and once unplanned while Kate was travelling in Australia)
- Act we saw the most – Sam Fender (4 times – twice at a gig and twice at a festival!)
- Number of venues – 36
- Number of geographical locations – 4
- Number of countries visited – 3
- Number of flights taken – 9 (this is slightly inflated by Kate’s 7 Australia flights!)
- Number of trains taken – 2
- And Spotify says Kate listened to a whopping 41,079 minutes of music (that’s nearly a month!)
So, that’s it, 2018 all done and dusted! The 2019 calendar is beginning to fill up but I feel there are still some exciting additions to be made to the line up…perhaps some new festivals…. You can stay tuned on our 2019 musical fun and adventures over on our Upcoming Events calendar page.
