We’re Lost In Music’s 2016 in Review
Hello!
In a year where we have lost so many greats, one thing is clear: while personal tastes and beliefs may differ, there is one consistent factor that unites us all – music.
Let us all be thankful for the impact and contributions of those figures who have made musical history – David Bowie, Glenn Frey, George Martin, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Rick Parfitt, George Michael, to name just some of those lost this year – and hope that there are no more announcements in the few days before the year is out. These figures have shaped music as we know it today and who knows who, if anyone, will go on to make equal or greater impacts.
While we may not have seen the next David Bowie (not suggesting there could ever be a ‘next’) perform live this year, this does not mean we have not witnessed some tremendous talent. Here is the summary of our 2016 in music…
Our favourite moments:
The blog definitely didn’t make it out on tour as much as we would have hoped this year, but we didn’t do too badly racking up the memories…
British Summer Time with Florence and the Machine – Hyde Park, London – 02/07/16- The Neighbourhood Festival – Various venues, Manchester – 08/10/16
- Jack Garratt with support from Alex Vargas – Under The Bridge, London – 18/04/16
- Bugged Out in Dreamland – Dreamland, Margate – 24/09/16
- Pete Tong Presents Ibiza Classics (performed by the Heritage Orchestra conducted by Jules Buckley) – The O2, London – 01/12/16
And our worst – not being at the Space Ibiza closing party as it closed its doors for the last time 😦
Our favourite DJs:
Don’t worry though, Jackmaster hasn’t lost his place in our hearts!
Our favourite live acts:
Look out for Fenech Soler making their comeback in 2017…
Our favourite new acts (the ones we’ve just discovered):
Highasakite (discovered after hearing Golden Ticket feature on a TV show)- The Computers (seen based on a recommendation)
- King No One (discovered at Neighbourhood Festival in Manchester)
- Flawes (seen supporting Highasakite)
- Boy Jumps Ship (seen supporting Fatherson)
In theory Jack Garratt belongs in here but it feels like we’ve been mega fans forever already!
Our favourite venues:
- Under The Bridge, London
- Alexandra Palace, London
- The Pickle Factory, London
- Gorilla, Manchester
- Brooklyn Bowl, London
Our least favourite this year has been Wembley Arena again – if we don’t ever go there again it will be too soon.
Our favourite albums:
Jack Garratt – Phase (released 19th February)- Highasakite – Camp Echo (released 20th May)
- Blossoms – Blossoms (released 4th August)
- Fatherson – Open Book (released 2nd June)
- Metronomy – Summer 08 (released 1st July)
We’ve been lucky enough to not have a worst this year!
Our year in numbers:
- Number of gigs – 56 (down 10 on last year)
(November was the busiest month with a count of 9…and we managed a 7 gigs in 2 weeks run – twice!) - Festivals – 6
- Trips to Ibiza – 0 (sad times)
- Trips to Croatia – 0 (doubly sad times)
- Act we saw the most – Sunset Sons and Jack Garratt (4 times each!)
- Number of venues – 51
- Number of geographical locations – 8
- Number of countries visited – 3
- Number of flights taken – 4
- Number of trains taken – 10
- Number of photos and videos taken – count for yourselves!
So, farewell 2016, we’ve loved every moment! Our hopes for 2017? Well, more festivals, more adventures, more new music…oh, and we’d love to see Sia live please!
