The Dome, London (2nd June 2015)
Ahh The Strypes. One of those bands you feel might get you arrested just for watching them…
We say this as these boys (Ross Farrelly, Josh McClorey, Pete O’Hanlon and Evan Walsh) are young: very young. With a combined age that doesn’t even hit 80, you might easily jump to the conclusion that they’re not going to be up to much.
You’d be wrong though – what these boys lack in age, they make up for in enthusiasm and attitude and, most importantly, talent!!
The boys burst onto the Tufnell Park Dome stage on Tuesday night ready to show everyone what they were made of. Powering through their set, they embody the essence of their rhythm and blues sound and mod style perfectly. A guitar riff here, a harmonica melody there – it’s clear the boys love what they do and have no intention of giving up anytime soon.
One of the things that is so appealing about the band is that they attract such a broad audience, and Tuesday’s gig was no different. We had screaming teenage girls in front of us, possibly their parents to the right of us – everyone was engaged in the music in their own way: singing, dancing, even moshing along! In fact, we’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best crowds we’ve had at a gig in while.
As they played their last note, we left feeling satisfied (not like that – remember we could get arrested…) So much so, we’ve already got tickets to see them again at KOKO in the Autumn as part of their Little Victories tour.
If you feel like checking them out for yourself (which clearly you should!) tickets go on sale here on Friday.
