A tale of two festivals… Part I: Berlin Festival – Day 2

Bands, DJs, Festivals, Music

BERLIN FESTIVAL

Arena Berlin  (5th-7th September, 2014)

Day 2: 6th September, 2014

Featured: Kindness, Coely, Editors, Jazzanova, Chase & Status

Onto day two and the first full day of the festival. Again we explored the surrounding areas, soaking up the chilled out vibes. Berlin Festival 2014_KindnessThe first act we wanted to see was Kindness and boy are we glad that we did. What a performer! This man likes to move, and with his long flowing locks and sharp style, you can guarantee he should not be missed. With a great supporting band and two sassy backing singers, Kindness (a.k.a. Adam Bainbridge)  glided around the stage and was absolutely mesmerising.

With the main hall a bit quieter earlier in the day, Adam Bainbridge decided it would be the perfect opportunity to take a stroll through the audience and even found time to order a drink at the bar mid-song! Berlin Festival 2014_KindnessDefinitely one to watch, and of course listen to.  Kindness’ album, Otherness, is due for release on 13th October.

We then entered the Glashaus area to watch female vocalist Coely . With a soulful, powerful voice, and an extremely confident performance, it’s hard to believe Coely is only 19.

Berlin Festival 2014_CoelyWith no specific stand-out moment (her whole performance stood out!), we have since tracked her down online and will be keeping an eye on her development.

Throwing in some more beach time, including a bit of Henrik Schwarz  and Nina Kraviz  on the decks, the next act on our list was Editors.  Ensuring Munich  featured early in their set, the boys had the crowd eating out of their hands from the outset. Berlin Festival 2014_EditorsExperienced at maintaining that momentum and knowing that everyone wants to hear the biggest hits at a festival, the boys definitely put on a solid performance (we say this not in a bad way but in a tipping of our hats way…not that we were actually wearing hats).

We finished our day with DJ sets from Jazzanova  (brilliant but too hot!), in the Arena Club, and Chase and Status  (too loud!) in the main hall before whisking ourselves away to begin our journey to Croatia (and unfortunately missing another full day at Berlin Festival in the process)…

Whilst a definite vehicle for our main love (music!), Berlin Festival also had other things to offer: Berlin Festival 2014_Dancethe Art Village showcased up and coming artists, live poetry could be found in the Poetry Saloon, contemporary and other dance forms were performed live,  and there were plenty of crafty temptations including fashion and jewellery. Not forgetting the local photo booth fun to be had, along with the end of the night karaoke…
